Disable,Enable or Restart Explorer.exe in Windows 8

When you install a new program or try a registry hack in Windows Operating system, you are asked to restart your system for the changes to take effect. The same can be achieved by restarting the explorer.exe process of Windows Explorer instead.

This post is aimed at letting you know how to conveniently restart Windows Explorer process using the new Task Manager in Windows 8.

Use the Ctrl + Shift + Esc key combination at any screen you are in Windows 8. When Task Manager window pops up like shown in the image, click or tap on More details button.

Turn off and Restart Windows Explorer Process exe in Windows 8

Windows Task ManagerClick on the Processes tab if you are not already there. The End Task option is still given at the bottom of the Task Manager window as in Windows 7.

End TaskLook for Windows Explorer process in the list of Processes. As soon as you locate the Windows Explorer process, you will see a Restart button in place of the End Task option. Click it and the process will end and restart on its own.

Windows Explorer -restartGo to File menu and click Exit Task Manager to end Task Manager.
